Transrapid 08
The Transrapid 08 was the first pre-series vehicle. The vehicles that still run in Shanghai today were built on its model.

From prototype to pre-series
The TR08 is the direct ancestor of the Transrapid that has been in regular service in Shanghai since 2003.
With the TR08, the Transrapid went from an experimental vehicle to a pre-series vehicle. The entire vehicle body was redesigned, and the technology is far more advanced than on the TR07.
In 2001 and 2002, three TR08-type vehicles were exported to China for the Shanghai line, the SMT. In 2010, a slightly modified version was rebuilt in China. The 501.5 km/h listed in the key facts was reached by this vehicle type in Shanghai.
