Handover
Because of the formation of a new government after the federal election, the handover is delayed until early summer 2025. The petition goes to the German Federal Ministry of Transport and the Bundestag's Petitions Committee.

Why the petition existed
Taking the Transrapid out of the drawer: that was the goal.
The rail network is overloaded and long-distance travel is unpunctual: in 2022, only 65.2% of ICE high-speed trains arrived on time. There is no dedicated high-speed network. At the same time, a doubling of intra-European air traffic by 2037 was forecast.
The petition therefore called for the Transrapid to be deployed where it makes sense: as a fast long-distance mode of transport, climate-neutral depending on the energy mix, that relieves rail and short-haul flights. You can find the arguments in detail under Advantages.
What the petition achieved
With 61,926 signatures, the petition was well above the quorum. It was handed over and dealt with by the Petitions Committee. With the response of October 16, 2025, it is "conclusively answered"; it did not directly trigger a line.
