The vehicle that proved service readiness

With the TR07, the Transrapid was officially considered technically ready for service in 1991.

The TR07 is a comprehensive further development of the TR06. The entire magnetic chassis was reworked and is considerably more redundant, and therefore safer. The car body was improved as well.

The car body was built by Krauss-Maffei in Munich, while the magnetic chassis came from Thyssen-Henschel. MBB abandoned its maglev development and its development team moved to Thyssen-Henschel. The secondary spring between the magnetic chassis and the car body is still a legacy of MBB.

In 1991 the TR07 was used to certify the Transrapid as technically ready for service. In 1993 it reached 450 km/h on the TVE, a world record at the time. During testing its exterior was modified repeatedly, in part resulting in lower noise levels.

Two sections, two paths

In 2000 and 2002 respectively, the TR07 was repainted red and converted into an info center. The Lathen section stood in Essen for a time as part of the Metrorapid project. The second section stood at Munich Airport, was later bought by Max Bögl and painted gray.
