History
Bigger, heavier, faster
With the TR04, the Transrapid broke the 250 km/h mark for the first time.
In 1973, Krauss-Maffei unveiled the TR04, the largest and heaviest vehicle of the development program up to that point. A new 2.4-kilometer test track was built for it in Munich-Allach.
Like its predecessors, the TR04 ran on an asynchronous short-stator linear motor. In 1977 it reached 253.2 km/h, exceeding its rated speed of 250 km/h.
