Transrapid Petition Delivered with Position Paper to Federal Transport Minister Schnieder
On July 5, 2025, the petition “Deploy the Transrapid in Germany!” was officially submitted to the German Federal Ministry of Transport and to Federal Transport Minister Patrick Schnieder – including a comprehensive position paper that sets out the technological, economic and transport-policy advantages of the Transrapid on solid grounds.
A personal handover was refused – despite repeated requests – by both the minister’s office and the ministry. This is especially disappointing, as maglev technology is even named in the coalition agreement as an option for local transport. The petition was therefore sent by post: the ministry now has 61,926 signatures and 17,837 comments, printed out as more than 1,000 pages.
I am not discouraged by this. Democracy thrives on participation – and 62,000 voices are a strong signal that must not simply be ignored. The future technology Transrapid deserves an honest reassessment – objective, free of ideology and fact-based. That is why I do not accept a refusal to receive it and am sending the petition by post.
And it continues: Next week, more exciting handovers to members of parliament from various parties will follow. The topic is gaining momentum. Last week, we already managed to hand over the petition to several members of the Bundestag (German parliament) for the first time.
