Technik Museum Speyer Stops TR04 Conversion into a Hotel Room
In early January 2023, magnetbahn.org reported on a plan by the Technik Museum Speyer to gut the interior of the Transrapid 04 and turn it into a hotel room. It has now emerged that the museum's management has stopped the plan after it was heavily criticized.

It has now emerged that the management of the Technik Museum Speyer has stopped the plan after it was heavily criticized.
However, the conversion had already partly begun. The vehicle’s paint was redone, but in a completely wrong shade and without the vehicle lettering.
The interior suffered as well. All the seating, floors & walls were removed – their whereabouts are unknown. Fortunately, the driver’s cab is still intact.
When I visited the vehicle and looked through the gap in the door, I noticed two cats inside the vehicle. They seem to be doing fine; according to an employee, they get into the vehicle through openings and escape again.
After the conversion into a hotel room was stopped by management, the vehicle was put back on display outdoors. What will happen to the vehicle in the future is uncertain. I am happy to serve as a contact for new ideas.
