Nobody Gets There Faster Than the Transrapid

🍺 The beer stein from Munich, still cold on arrival in Berlin. By Transrapid? No problem. 2 hours and 8 minutes from the Hofbräuhaus to the Bundestag (German parliament), including the walk, a short boarding time and a little buffer.

🍺 The beer stein from Munich, still cold on arrival in Berlin. By Transrapid? No problem. 2 hours and 8 minutes from the Hofbräuhaus (Munich’s famous beer hall) to the Bundestag (German parliament), including the walk, a short boarding time and a little buffer.

By car, the whole trip takes over six and a half hours, from getting to the garage through the long drive, breaks and looking for parking to the walk into the government quarter. The train fares hardly better at around five and a half hours, once you factor in the transfer to Munich Central Station, waiting times, possible delays and the way from Berlin Central Station to the Bundestag.

Even the airplane, often perceived as the fastest option, takes just under five hours under real conditions. Getting to Munich Airport alone takes about 45 to 60 minutes, as does the transfer from BER airport into Berlin’s city center. Add long walks in the terminal, waiting at check-in and security checks that often take more than an hour.

The Transrapid would have a clear advantage here: it departs directly from the city center and arrives there too. No long journey to the station, no parking search, no security check, no transfers. Instead of fighting through traffic jams, checkpoints and connection problems, you travel quickly and predictably, at up to 500 km/h on an independent line.

It is time to give this technology in Germany a real chance.
