Book by the Former TVE Operations Manager Available Again
The book by Günter Steinmetz, longtime operations manager of the Transrapid Test Facility Emsland (TVE), is once again available, exclusively in the maglevhub.com online shop. It had been out of stock for several weeks.
In it, Steinmetz gives a first-hand account of the development of the Transrapid – from the beginnings through the technical challenges of the test facility to the 2006 accident and the project’s later political demise. He critically addresses the political resistance that had accompanied the project since the 1980s and describes the prospects the technology would have had in his view.
The book conveys the personal perspective of a central key figure in Transrapid history who helped shape the project from start to finish. Across more than 200 pages, it documents a course of events that has often been presented in shortened or misleading form in public accounts.
Steinmetz passed away in summer 2024. maglevhub.com has made it its mission to keep his book available. No other publication describes the overall picture of history, technology and politics as well and as personally as this one. The book was published in 2014 and was previously distributed through Steinmetz’s own publishing house.
