2,800 km Transrapid Network Costs Only Half as Much as Rail Renovation
🛤️ Renovating the rail network is necessary. Dilapidated bridges, outdated signal boxes and chronic operational disruptions show that the system is at its limit. Deutsche Bahn states an investment need of €290 billion over the next 10 years. Crazy! To relieve the network, relief is urgently needed, above all for the passengers who struggle every day with the railway’s unreliability.
🚝 Anyone who then argues that the Transrapid would be too expensive has missed the point entirely. Alongside the renovation, a real technological leap is needed, and it is called the Transrapid.
⚠️ For less than half of Deutsche Bahn’s renovation budget, a roughly 2,800-kilometer Transrapid network could be built that connects all of Germany’s major cities, with a cruising speed of 500 km/h, extremely short travel times, maximum punctuality and minimal wear.
🚀 Thanks to its strong acceleration, the Transrapid is also suited to short city-to-city connections. The routing can largely follow motorways or rail corridors, as earlier concepts have already shown: the “Metrorapid” project (2002) was to have 95% of its route bundled along existing corridors, and 70% between Hamburg and Berlin (2000). This minimizes additional burdens on residents, cities and nature.
